The $100 Gift
There was a homeless man featured on YouTube that received over 40 million views. His name was Kenni Thomas Nickel. A stranger gave Mr Nickel $100 cash and followed him with a hidden camera to see how the money would be spent. It was discovered that Nickel gave the money to other homeless people for the purpose of food and other necessities. Nickel was found dead in a L.A. alleyway. Cause of death was from Chronic Alcohol Abuse.
While conducting the interviews for my book, I have found out that most of the homeless would rather give than to receive. Most street people have experienced first hand the agony of not having the simple things in life such as a pair of clean socks or a roll of toilet paper. So it only goes to show, that when a desperate person can help someone who is in more need than they are, it makes the giver feel wonderful inside.
When you are driving down the street and see a panhandler standing on the corner. What do you believe they are going to use the money for?
Kit Kramer
When I come across a panhandler on the street, I always assess their appearance and demeanor. I try to conclude if they appear to be a substance abuser or not. All panhandlers have something in common: They are seeking a necessity. For the ones who are addicts, their necessities are the substances that keep them bound to the streets. For the others, these necessities may include food, water, shelter, clothes, etc. It is up to lender to decide whether they want to help a homeless person obtain their necessity and how they will do so..

The purpose of this book is to give the public knowledge of the true stories behind the panhandlers. Not only how they live, but how they ended up where they are today.
